Welcome to the Carmel Centre
The
Carmel Centre is situated within the grounds of St Edmund’s Catholic Secondary
School in Dover, Kent. The concept of community chaplaincy supported through the centre, came as a response to Archbishop Kevin McDonald's Vision document, 'Towards a Vision for Our Diocese' referred to in the Advent Pastoral Letter of 2006.
Initially the Carmel Centre served as a flexible learning space for the school's Religious Studies department and a focus for Community Chaplaincy. In 2007, after only two months of demolition and reconstruction, the new Carmel Centre was completed and opened to the school and its community.
Through Community Chaplaincy the Carmel Centre has developed a range of activities including a weekly youth group, Advent and Lenten youth days and a selection of community talks by guest speakers. It is also host to the Dover Deanery Pastoral Council meetings.
OUR SERVICES

The Carmel Centre plans to offer both the school and the community a sense of welcoming and ownership through the Community Chaplaincy project and its specialised team. The Carmel Centre is a new and modern facility available to the wider community to apply to use. The Chaplaincy Team will organise school and community events to take place within the Carmel Centre, but school students and the community are encouraged to organise their own events to develop their faith together.
